Karbon does not apply any default font settings to emails. This means that the email will be viewed by the receiver based on the settings of their own email client.
When composing an email or note in Karbon, you have several 'web safe' font options to choose from. These are a small collection of fonts that appear across all operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Google, Unix, or Linux.
Using these fonts ensures that whatever font you choose in Karbon will be seen in exactly the same way by your recipient, regardless of their email client or operating system.
Using non-web-safe fonts can result in your clients seeing something different from what you intended.
Use of a custom font
By default, Karbon sets no expectations around what your email will look like when it is read by the recipient. This allows readers to select text sizes and font styles that are comfortable for them to read.
However, in some cases, setting a default font for outgoing emails makes sense. For example, if your firm has a brand-specific font that all employees should use, Karbon can be configured to use an explicit font by default. However, there are several factors to consider:
Font Compatibility: Setting a custom font does not guarantee it will be received in the same way. The recipient's email program must have the font installed; otherwise, it will use a similar backup font.
Distribution: Consider how widely distributed your chosen font is and how likely it is to be installed on the recipient's devices.
Fallback Fonts: Choose a good 'fallback' font. There is a small set of fonts considered widely distributed enough to be safe for general use.
