What is a deadline date?

Adding a Deadline date to a work item allows you to indicate when work must be completed by. Examples of deadlines are statutory filing dates, compliance deadlines or dates contractually agreed delivery dates. This is opposed to a Work Due date which is an internal date for your practice that defines when the work should be completed by.

Set a deadline when creating work

It is possible to set a deadline when creating a new piece of work in Karbon.

1. From the Create Work modal, use the Show Deadline button available at the bottom to display the Deadline Date field.

2. When displayed on the modal, this field works like the Start Date and Due Date fields allowing to you choose a date for the Deadline from a list or using the date picker.

Edit or remove a deadline on work

Karbon users who have the necessary permission to Edit work can change or remove Deadline dates on existing work in several places:

1. Selecting the Due field from the header of the work item

2. Selecting Edit from the Key Dates section in the Details tab of the work

3. Selecting Set Deadline from the ... menu options on the Kanban view

4. Selecting the Deadline date from the Deadline column in the Work List View

If you would like to remove a Deadline Date choose "No date" from the bottom of the drop-down list.

Viewing and Filtering work by Deadline date

Deadline dates can be used on the Kanban and List Work views - allowing you to see an overview of work to be prioritized by the deadline date.

Sorting by deadline (Kanban view)

When viewing a summary of work in the Kanban view, you can use the sorting slider menu at the top-right of the work view to sort the columns by Deadline date:

Sorting by deadline (List View)

When using the List view on the Work page, the deadline date is shown by default. It is possible to set or reverse the ordering of the Deadline field by selecting the Deadline column heading

Filtering by deadline

Deadline dates filters work similarly to the filters for Start Date and Due Date. After clicking Add Filter, select the Deadline option from the filter list to open the Filter by Deadline Date modal. This will allow you to select different date range options to filter by.

When the filter is applied, the number of work items shown may change depending on the settings used and a summary of the filter will be shown at the top of the page:

Deadlines in repeating work

Creating repeating work with a deadline

Just like a Due date, it is possible to set a Deadline date on instances of work created by a Repeat Work Schedule. Where a deadline date is set on the existing work item, the deadline field will calculate that as the "Days after start date" option. Where the deadline is blank, no value will be preset.

Deadline date has similar options to the Work is Due (due date) field:

Using the deadline in the Work Title

The Deadline date can also be used in the repeating work's naming convention, by selecting the Deadline placeholder option. This will open a modal showing the various options for the placeholder:

Editing or removing deadlines on repeat work schedules

Much like editing any other aspect of a repeat work schedule, the deadline date can be changed or removed for all future instances of work.

By accessing the Repeat Work Settings, it is possible to edit the Key Dates to change the Deadline date. To remove the deadline from future instances of work not yet created by the schedule, select the No deadline date option.
