Conditional workflows help your team stay focused by displaying only the sections and tasks that are relevant to a specific situation. This reduces clutter, prevents mistakes, and streamlines your processes by keeping irrelevant steps hidden until they're needed.
This article will guide you through the initial setup: how to create sections in your templates and set them to be inactive by default, making them ready for conditional activation.
Prerequisites
Access to Karbon templates.
Basic understanding of Karbon sections and tasks.
Steps
Step 1: Create Sections in Your Template
If you haven't already, create the sections in your Work Template that you intend to make conditional. These sections will contain tasks that are only relevant under specific circumstances.
Navigate to Templates from the left-hand navigation bar.
Open the template where you want to add conditional sections.
Add new sections as needed. For example, you might create a "Complex Client Review" section or a "Specific Compliance Check" section.
Step 2: Set Sections to Inactive by Default
To ensure these conditional sections are hidden until they're needed, you must set their default state to inactive.
Within your template, navigate to the section you wish to make conditional (e.g., "Complex Client Review").
Click the triple dots (...) (More Actions menu) next to the section name.
Select Deactivate Section.
Once deactivated, the section will appear dimmed in the template, indicating it is hidden by default when new Work Items are created from this template.
Your team will not see these tasks or sections unless they are specifically activated through an automator or manual intervention.
Next Steps
Once your sections are set to inactive, you'll need to configure automators to activate them based on specific conditions. This is where your conditional workflows come to life.
