Giving Access Without Edit Rights in Karbon

Give users standard access in Karbon while restricting their ability to make changes to work items or contact details.

If you'd like to give a team member visibility into Karbon—such as the ability to view contact information and collaborate on work—but prevent them from making updates to Work items or Contacts, you can do this by combining their user role with granular permissions.

Steps:

1. Assign the user the "Standard User" role

  • Go to Settings > Colleagues

  • Click the three dots next to the colleague's name and select Edit User Permissions

  • Set their role to Standard User

This prevents them from:

  • Accessing Settings

  • Exporting Contact or Work data

  • Managing user permissions for others

2. Remove Contact Update Permissions

In the same Edit User Permissions window:

  • Scroll to the Contact Permissions section

  • Uncheck the boxes for:

    • Create Contacts

    • Edit Contacts

    • Delete Contacts

This ensures they can view contact details but cannot make any changes.

3. Remove Work Update Permissions

Still in the Edit User Permissions window:

  • Scroll to the Work Permissions section

  • Uncheck the boxes for:

    • Create Work

    • Edit Work

    • Delete Work

This prevents the user from modifying or creating any work items.

Additional Tips

  • The Restricted User role also prevents editing but limits visibility across the app. If the user still needs to collaborate, Standard User with limited permissions is often the better option.

  • These permission settings can be adjusted at any time as the user’s responsibilities evolve.
