This article explains how to use Custom Contact Fields to create segments in Karbon, allowing you to group contacts based on specific criteria captured in these custom fields.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Contacts section in Karbon.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click Segments.

  3. Click the Add Segment button.

  4. In the "Segment Name" field, enter a descriptive name for your new segment (e.g., "Tax Clients - Email Preference").

  5. In the "Filters" section, click Add filter.

  6. In the dropdown menu that appears, locate and select the Custom Contact Field you want to use for your segment (e.g., "Communication Preference").

  7. Once you have selected the Custom Contact Field, another dropdown menu will appear. Choose the appropriate matching rule based on your needs (e.g., "is exactly", "includes any", "is before", "is after").

  8. Depending on the matching rule and the type of Custom Contact Field, you will be prompted to enter or select the specific value(s) you want to filter by. For example, if you are filtering a "Communication Preference" list field and choose "is exactly", you would select "Email".

  9. You can add more filters using other Custom Contact Fields or standard Karbon contact fields to further refine your segment. Click Add filter again to add additional criteria (e.g., filter by "Service Type").

  10. Once you have added all the necessary filters, you can optionally set a Sharing Rule to control which team members can view and use this segment.

  11. Click Save to create your segment.

Once saved, the segment will automatically populate with contacts that meet the specified criteria based on the Custom Contact Field(s) you selected. You can then use this segment for various purposes, such as creating work items or exporting a list of contacts.
