This article explains how Karbon administrators can create new Custom Contact Fields to capture specific information relevant to their firm's contacts.

Prerequisites:

You must be a Karbon administrator to access and modify Contact Settings.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings in Karbon.

  2. Click on Contact Settings.

  3. Next to Custom Contact Fields, click the Edit button.

  4. Click the Add Custom Contact Field button.

  5. In the "Name" field, enter a clear and descriptive name for your new custom field (e.g., "Communication Preference", "Birthday Month").

  6. Use the "Type" dropdown menu to select the appropriate data type for your field (e.g., Text, Number, Date, Boolean, Colleague, List).

  7. If you selected "List" as the type: a. Enter the desired values for your list in the provided fields. b. You can reorder the values by dragging the handle next to each item. c. To delete a value, click the trash can icon next to it. d. To add more values, click the "Add another item" option (if available). e. By default, it will be a single-select list. To allow users to select multiple values, check the "Allow multiple selections" checkbox.

  8. In the "Visibility" section, check the boxes next to People and/or Organizations to specify where this custom field should appear. Note that Custom Contact Fields are not available for Client Groups.

  9. Once you have configured the name, type, and visibility, click OK to save your new Custom Contact Field.

Troubleshooting:

Cannot save the custom field name: Ensure that the name you have chosen does not already exist as a standard Karbon contact field (e.g., "First Name", "Email").
