Instructions on how to connect PowerBI to Karbon Practice Intelligence

Prerequisites

  • Power BI Desktop downloaded on your machine

  • Credentials to the Karbon Data Warehouse. If you need credentials for the Karbon Data Warehouse, or are interested in Karbon Practice Intelligence, please reach out via the Intercom Chat

Instructions

Please follow the instructions below to connect to your Karbon Secured Views using Power BI Desktop:

  1. To connect to the Karbon dataset(s), select Get Data from the Home ribbon in Power BI Desktop.

2. Select Database from the categories on the left, and you will see Snowflake. Select Snowflake and then Connect.

In the Snowflake window that appears, type or paste the name of the server address provided. Your server address will resemble the following: ab12345.west-us-2.azure.snowflakecomputing.com

Enter the Snowflake computing warehouse name, read_wh, into the Warehouse field.

Select the Advanced Options dropdown.

In the “Specify a text value to use as Role Name” field, type in “Public”.

Select OK.

Enter the username and password provided, then select Connect.

The Navigation window will open. Expand the “KPI_DATABASE” folder as well as “SECURE_VIEWS”. This will show the tables available through KPI. Check the desired table(s).

Select Load.

Under Connectivity Settings, select Import.

Select OK.

You should now be able to see the list of tables available to you for analysis.
